Rajshekhar Roy, CEO, Four Soft Ltd is credited with taking his IT solutions company to the global arena. Mr Roy’s association with Four Soft began in October 2007 when he joined as the Head of Global Delivery. He was promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) in April 2008, and subsequently became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) six months later. The Hyderabad-based company is the world’s largest transportation and logistics software provider. It develops innovative and integrated enterprise solutions for national and global logistics companies.

Mr Roy is in charge of the company’s business operations across the US, Asia and Europe. He also takes active interest in marketing, product development, quality control and technology enhancement.

Passion for innovation

Mr Roy holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and is an MBA from IIM Kolkata. He is a certified trainer in Organisational Development, Change Management and Quality Management.

From his earliest days in the University, he had a passion for innovating and developing software that could facilitate business processes. After joining Four Soft he realised that the Indian logistics industry had tremendous potential. However, in order to elevate the sector to global standards, he strongly felt a need for customised software solutions.

“I saw an opportunity to establish standard software products for the logistics industry. The idea was to develop new technologies that would fill the gap in the market,” says Mr Roy.

Troubleshooting

In the initial days, Mr Roy faced a lot of challenges in marketing his software products in the logistics industry. “The first major challenge was to create a set of technologically advanced products that would compare favourably with the products that most companies were aware of. We solved the problem by creating some unique software products that promptly yielded results when implemented in the logistics business process,” points out Mr Roy.

Riding on the recession

He believes that recession is a phase that will die down once all industrial verticals start taking collective measures. Having worked closely with the shipping and logistics industry, Mr Roy feels, “Thinking out-of-the-box for shipment consolidation practices would be one of the result-oriented measures the shipping industry can adopt during this difficult time.”

According to him, eliminating premium or express service delivery models would be another development that could make way for economical service models which could offer better service levels to customers.

Change perception

With over 20 years of exhaustive business management experience in the areas of software services, business process outsourcing and management consulting, Mr Roy foresees significant changes in the Indian logistics industry.

He prophesies, “As a result of globalisation, constant growth in outsourcing logistics to third party logistics (3PLs) will lead to upgradation and migration to new and advanced technology solutions.”

Future plans

As the CEO of the company, Mr Roy is focussed on expanding the market share globally across UK, Europe and USA. Though Four Soft already has a presence in these regions, he plans to concentrate more on sales, so that the company achieves its goal of becoming the global market leader.
