Anil Arora, MD, MJLSL

Anil Arora, MD of MJ Logistic Services Ltd (MJLSL), and a second-generation entrepreneur, has been operating in the logistics business for 15 years now. As the first step towards taking his family-run warehousing business to newer heights, he transformed it into a progressive 3rd Party Logistics (3PL) company.

In 2005, Mr Arora founded MJ Logistic Services Ltd with an aim to provide end-to-end 3PL service to its valuable clients. Today, MJLSL is one of the upcoming logistics companies in India in the SME segment. The company clocked a turnover of Rs 10 crore in 2007-08.

Mr Arora is in charge of strategy development, business development and operations at MJLSL. Presently, he is focusing on reinventing his warehouse space to match global standards.

Gradual elevation

Mr Arora believes that nothing can be achieved without struggle or proper planning and his accomplishments so far chronicle his sheer determination and vision.

Initially, the company offered warehousing and transportation services to its clients. The first milestone for the company came, when it offered stock management, transportation and warehouse services to Phillips India. After that, there was no looking back,” says Mr Arora.

With the growth of the 3PL services industry in India, Mr Arora realised that the time was ideal to explore a new avenue that would redefine the logistics business in the next few years. He took a major leap by increasing his warehousing space from 3,25,000 sq ft in 2004 to over 1 million sq ft at present. He also implemented all the necessary changes to upgrade the facility, so that it could provide integrated cold chain enabled logistics services across various sectors.

Creating a brand

Over a short period of time, Mr Arora has made MJLSL a brand in itself. He says, “It is not that we are spending a lot of money as part of our brand promotion. Instead, what we do is develop new business models and strategies that eventually attract the attention of the industry and our clients.”

He took the initiative to develop the first-of-its-kind world class logistics centre in India at Palwal on the Delhi-Agra highway. “When complete, the centre will be spread over an area of 2,00,000 square feet and will have 20,000 pallet positions with ample storage space. The centre will also have temperature controlled chambers that will range from 10 degrees to 25 degrees centigrade,” describes Mr Arora.

According to him, the new facility will provide a completely new 3PL experience for the clients. With the new unit, he has introduced the Pay per Use model in India for the first time.

Battling crisis

Mr Arora believes that in the present market scenario, when the logistics sector is battling to sustain itself in the aftermath of the global slowdown, there is an urgent need to reduce the complexities of logistics operations, cut down costs and increase the visibility of inventory.

Whenever he manages to take some time out of his busy schedule, he indulges in photography or unwinds by listening to soft music.
