Arshiya wins tender for copper concentrate movement

ARIL, after winning a recent tender, will be instrumental in handling the cargo movement of copper concentrate for Sterlite

Arshiya Rail Infrastructure Ltd (ARIL), a subsidiary of Arshiya International Ltd, an integrated supply chain and logistics infrastructure solutions providing company, has made a great headway into the logistic scene in India. The company won a tender for the movement of 24,000 million tonne (mt) of copper concentrate for Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd (SIIL) - a Vedanta Group company - and one of the largest non-ferrous metals and mining company. Spaced over a period of 6 months, the movement of copper concentrate will take place from Khetri (Rajasthan) to the Copper Smelter Unit of SIIL, located at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.

ARIL emerged the winner amongst five other bidders for the deal. The deal will find ARIL providing an end-to-end solution to Sterlite for this movement which also includes first and last mile transportation and handling. This deal will further strengthen ARIL's already strong presence in the southern region for the evacuation of finished products.

Commenting on the tender win, Sajal Mittra, CEO of Arshiya Rail Infrastructure Ltd, said, “Arshiya Rail has always endeavoured to provide customised services as per the unique and specific needs of companies looking at optimising Rail as an efficient and primary mode of transportation across India. While this is a big win for us, this is only the first phase of ARIL's endeavour to partner with the Indian Railways and revolutionise rail movement in India.”

Railways need to increase cargo movement share

Currently, Rail market share for movement of cargo Pan-India is only 30%. According to M Nayak, senior official at a small-sized Kolkata-based transportation firm Bharat Road Carriers, “Increasing the share of the railway’s participation in the cargo movement in India will prove beneficial for the Railways. Dedicated railway corridors are the need of the hour.”

For ARIL, this will be its second big win from the Vedanta Group, adding to the evacuation operations it has been servicing Vedanta's Aluminium plant in Jharsuguda, Orissa from February 2009 onwards.
