Goltens ventures the Indian ship repair market

US-based ship repair company, Goltens, has entered the Indian ship repair segment by setting up a workshop in Navi Mumbai and also plans to offer services to industrial and power generation sectors

Goltens, the US-based ship repair company, has entered the Indian market with a vision to capitalise on the US$44 billion Indian ship repairing sector. Goltens has set up a workshop in Navi Mumbai and will also be offering services to the industrial and power generation sectors.

 

Paul Friedberg, president of Goltens Worldwide, said in a press conference in Mumbai that the company aspires to be the pioneer ship repairing company in India and expects a major transformation in the global ship maintenance business in the near future. The company is also looking to invest US$10 million in ship maintenance business across Asia-Pacific, including the India sector.

 

Encouragement for the Indian shipping community

 

The news of Goltens entering the Indian market has buoyed the Indian shipping community. Viraj Goradia, proprietor of Viraj Logistics, a mid-sized logistics service provider in Maharashtra, says, “This is great news for the Indian shipping community. We do face problems regarding ship repairing and Goltens will help us to overcome these problems.”

 

Mr Friedberg also said that today most of the shipping companies in the world have large and highly sophisticated engines. These engines require repair and maintenance on a regular basis, which has witnessed an increasing demand for servicing and repair facilities. Keeping this in mind, Goltens is expanding its global network of workshops and other office facilities.

 

PK Janardhan, proprietor of Anushree Enterprises, Mumbai, a mid-sized shipping firm in Mumbai, says, “Currently, the ship repairing sector in India is not an organised one and Goltens will help us to get a one-step solution that will cater to all our needs. Since Goltens is such a reputed name in ship repairing, its suggestion will also help us to improve our technique in ship building and ship repairing.” At present, Goltens operates from around 22 locations worldwide with a skilled workforce including technicians, engineers, mechanics and managers servicing the shipping industry round the clock.
