Logistics firms and commuters can expect hassle-free movement in the near future with India signing a memorandum of co-operation with Finland to uplift its road transportation services

Road transport system in the country is up for a facelift with India signing a memorandum of co-operation (MoC) with Finlandcovering several aspects aimed at providing world-class road transportation facilities in the country. The MoC signed earlier this month on May 10 focuses on construction and safeguarding of roads, implementation of facilities ensuring traffic safety etc. It also aims to set up an information management system for road administration. According to a survey conducted by Shippingbiz360.com, a whopping 100% of the respondents opined that with the signing of the MoC with Finland road transport facilities will be significantly improved in the country.

Logistics cos upbeat

According to Amit Sharma, proprietor of Aaryan Transport Company, a mid-sized transport company in Chandigarh, “With expertise coming from Finland, we can expect smooth movement of our vehicles, which are most often caught in traffic snarls. At present, due to abysmal road conditions prevalent in major parts of the country, logistics firms find it difficult to meet deadlines, which have grave repercussions on their business. Not only does it rattle consumer faith but also takes a toll on our revenues. With logistics business picking up in the country, need for world-class transportation facilities is the need of the hour.”

Through the MoC, India is likely to gain advantage from some policies followed by Finland in road transportation. It is to be noted that Finland boasts of possessing one of the best road transportation management systems in the world in terms of vehicle inspection, vehicle certification and accident investigation. According to Winston Vinod Kumar, manager of Geo Logistics, a mid-sized logistics firm in Bengaluru, “With Finland engaging in the road transportation scenario in India, we expect commuters to enjoy hassle-free and safe journey.” Mr Kumar also added that the MoC has come at a critical juncture, considering the ever increasing number of road accidents taking place in India on a daily basis.
