Kolkata to develop another jetty

Kolkata Port Trust is understood to be preparing to invite pre-qualification bids for developing yet another jetty.

It has already proposed a riverine jetty, the pre-qualification bids for which have already been received and the pre-bid meetings are in progress.

This riverine jetty in the upstream of the existing third oil jetty of the dock will have a length of 275 metres to handle ocean going vessels. It will be complete with a back-up area of 10 acres and a rail link. The project is designed to be implemented through the PPP (public private partnership) mode.

The second jetty which is planned will be of smaller size, and to be located at downstream of the existing second oil jetty of Haldia dock. It will mainly handle barges and smaller tankers with an average parcel load of 5,000 to 6,000 tonnes. However, unlike the bigger jetty, the smaller jetty will have no rail link.
