Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP)

Headquartered in Mumbai, Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP) is an independent body. The authority was constituted in April 1997, when the Major Port Trust Act, 1963 was amended by Port Laws (Amendment) Act, 1997. It comprises a secretary, two members, a director and a chairperson.

The authority is responsible for regulating all tariffs, including vessel and cargo. It also prescribes the rates for services and facilities provided by major port trusts and private terminals, besides fixing the rates for lease of port trust properties.

The authority emphasises on user views and therefore, organises direct interactive sessions with them. In addition to this, joint hearings are also held at the port level before the authority takes decision on individual tariff cases. Names of some of the users include Mumbai Port Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, International Seaports (Haldia) Private Limited and India Gateway Terminal Private Limited, among others.
